Tampa Bay Professionals Recognized for their Research on Generation Y by National Association: To Present Findings to 1,500 Mental Health Professionals from Across the Country
June 17- St. Petersburg, FL - Barbara Rhode and Annette Reiter, two St. Petersburg-based professionals well known for their research on Generation Y and technology, have been hand selected from a pool of national candidates to speak at American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) National Conference. Reiter and Rhode will be presenting their research to over 1,500 mental health professionals from across the country.
"Tampa Bay is a national hub for technology, thanks to its location on the Florida High Tech Corridor. This has helped our research tremendously, since we are able to interact daily with the people that, in many ways, are leading this digital revolution. Our own assistant is the former communications manager for Wikipedia. I think this gives us a huge advantage to see not only the "therapy" side, but the technological side as well," stated Annette Reiter.
The AAMFT national conference will take place October 30 - November 2 in Memphis, Tennessee. Reiter's and Rhode's seminar, entitled ""Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll, The Joys of Working With Teenagers," was one of the 25% selected proposals. The seminar will focus on teen brain development and neurological changes, overall development issues, and Generation Y and technology.
Last month, Reiter had the honor of speaking at the AAMFT's Florida chapter conference, which was has held in Fort Lauderdale, where she presented "The Truth & Lies About Texting: Understanding the Technological Effects on Our Children."
Ms. Rhode and Ms. Reiter are well known therapists, speakers, and published authors. The duo have been guest speakers at various Tampa Bay landmark institutions including Eckered College, Stetson College, and the YWCA of Tampa Bay, among others. This summer the duo will be publishing their coauthored book, "P911: Parenting the Digital Generation," that will be serve as a practical handbook for parents raising children in today's technological world.
"This is a great honor. The AAMFT serves as the point of reference for therapists throughout the country, and even abroad. Generation Y is facing many new obstacles never seen before, that are literally revolutionizing our social fabric. As a result, its important that we discuss and address these changes as a community, since it affects all of our lives," stated Barbara Rhode.
The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is the professional association for the field of marriage and family therapy representing the professional interests of more than 24,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. The association leads the way to increasing understanding, research and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and ensuring that the public's needs are met by trained practitioners.
Reiter and Rhode have also recently launched virtual tools for Tampa Bay parents.
